SUMMARY:Dementia Caregiver Support Group @ UNI Dementia Simulation House
DESCRIPTION:The UNI Dementia Simulation House we will be hosting two\, 6-week\, family caregiver support groups at the house. One group will focus on people whose spouses/partners are living with dementia\, and the other group will focus on people whose parents are living with dementia. The groups will be held on Tuesdays from October 4 through November 8. People can attend all of the meetings or come to any meetings that fit their schedule. \n1-2 p.m. Family Caregivers whose Partner/Spouse is Living with Dementia \n7-8 p.m. Family Caregivers whose Parent is Living with Dementia \nThe purpose of the groups is to provide a safe space for family caregivers to share their experiences and to gain support from other participants. The groups will be facilitated by graduate students from the UNI Counseling Program. While they will not be providing professional counseling services\, the students will be there to listen\, to provide a supportive presence\, to help people to make connections\, and to keep the sessions focused on the needs of the group. The student facilitators will also do their best to provide resources and referrals as needed\, and the emphasis of each session will be support. \nIf you\, or someone you know\, would like to attend\, or if you have questions\, please send a message to Olivia at dementia.simulation@uni.edu

SUMMARY:A Run to Remember: The Kevin Dill 5K and Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:Run To Remember is a fundraising 5k and Fun Run in honor of former Black Hawk County Veteran Affairs Commission Executive Director Kevin Dill. The money raised will be donated to Dementia Friendly Cedar Valley\, Lewy Body Dementia Association\, and Waterloo’s Veterans Way. \nMain Street Waterloo is partnering with Rotary Club of the Cedar Valley to host this first annual event. \nA Run to Remember: The Kevin Dill 5K and Fun Run \nThis event will benefit Dementia Friendly Cedar Valley of NEI3A\, the Lewy Body Dementia Association\, and the Waterloo’s Veterans Way Project. All are invited to participate in the event\, with an option to compete in the competitive timed run.
