We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding efforts of the staff and students at Lowell Elementary School in Waterloo! Their school counselor, Ms. Guzman, recently became a Dementia Friends Champion, taking a proactive approach to raising awareness about dementia.
Ms. Guzman conducted Dementia Friends Sessions in each class, ensuring that nearly 400 students and staff gained a better understanding of dementia and learned how to interact with people living with dementia. The students went above and beyond by writing encouraging messages and creating heartfelt drawings for people in the community living with dementia – some of which are showcased here. To further support families, Ms. Guzman now has Dementia Resource Guides in her office, ready to share if the need arises. Thank you, Lowell Elementary School, for taking this important step in serving your community!
