Dementia Friendly Cedar Valley (DFCV) exists to promote change and education in the community to create a more informed, safe, and respectful place for people living with dementia and their caregivers. Formerly Dementia Friendly Waterloo, initial action team meetings launched in 2019, making it the first recognized Dementia Friendly Community effort in Iowa to join the Dementia Friendly America network. The DFCV initiative now seeks to make all of the Cedar Valley more dementia friendly. Progress in the Cedar Valley is driven by the action team of volunteers from across sectors as well as people living with dementia and past and current caregivers. One of the main priorities of the movement is community awareness and education, specifically through their Dementia Friendly Business/Organization training and recognition program. Our DFCV action team meetings are currently on pause as the team works to identify a new community lead. Please email DementiaFriendlyIowa@nei3a.org if you are interested in helping lead these local efforts.
